Greenstone Recommends for Summer

Laura

To Read:

I’ve been saving Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid as one to savour and am going to try and not read too quickly – I usually inhale her books and I’m so excited by the space/NASA setting for this one. I’m also looking forward to the new Ali Hazlewood Problematic Summer Romance which sounds like a perfect bit of escapism. A few people have recommended The Compound by Aisling Rawle to me which is described as Love Island meets Lord of The Flies, what a pitch!

To Watch:

I’ve just finished Dept Q on Netflix which I thought was brilliant. I loved the whole cast and really hope they make another series. I also watched Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey which is a horrifying exploration of the FLDS church and its leader, please watch with caution. I’m very excited by the news that Joshua Jackson and Katie Holmes are pairing up to film a new movie together (team Joey and Pacey) so I might go back and rewatch some old episodes of Dawson’s Creek in preparation.

To Listen:

Next on my Audible list is the new Lisa Jewell Don’t Let Him In – Richard Armitage is one of my favourite narrators and Lisa Jewell never disappoints on the twists. I also want to listen to Fredrik Backman’s My Friends. For podcasts, I’ve found myself back with Parenting Hell with Josh Widdicombe and Rob Beckett, to remind myself I’m not the only parent slightly losing their mind in the summer holidays.

To Read:

I’m just finished reading The Compound by Aisling Rawle and loved it. The slight dystopian feel mixed with society’s love of reality tv shows turned this book into a page turning novel that I couldn’t put down. I am currently reading The Lamb by Lucy Rose and Tart by The Slutty Chef. Mixing a horror novel with a funny memoir has been an entertaining mix. Up next I’m looking forward to The Names by Florence Knapp, and The Book of Guilt by Catherine Chidgey.

To Watch:

I am a sucker for period dramas and am waiting to start the latest season of The Gilded Age until I finish The Buccaneers. I’ve also just finished The Diplomat on Netflix and am stressed out after that cliffhanger of an ending! This came after watching Andor which was brilliantly done. Lastly, I have My Oxford Year queued up and ready to go, and I’m prepared to laugh, cry, and fall in love.

To Listen:

The podcast Normal Gossip has been keeping me entertained while walking, commuting, and running. It’s fun to dip into low-stakes gossip and some of the stories would my very entertaining books. I mix this up with books in Audible and am almost finished with Silver Elite by Dani Francis. Queued up next is The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig. All of these books, podcasts, and shows keep me entertained!

To Read:

My Friends by Frederik Backman is next up on my list, it was recommended to me by one of my closest friends so of course it goes to the top of the TBR, I also want to read it while it’s still summer! I’ve also been saving The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig for when I can hide away and do nothing but read for a day, I really enjoyed her previous series so I’m excited for this one.

To Watch:

I started watching The Summer I Turned Pretty for some summer vibes and have been making my way through seasons one and two while dodging spoilers on social media, dare I say #TeamConrad. I’ve been saving Untamed with Eric Bana on Netflix, set in Yosemite National Park, it follows a National Parks Service agent investigating a murder, I don’t know much more than that but it’s ticking the boxes for me.

To Listen:

With Sarah J Maas announcing another A Court of Thorns and Roses book I decided on a reread listening to the new 10th anniversary editions with Elizabeth Evans narrating, she made Throne of Glass come alive for me so I’m loving her rendition of ACOTAR. When in the car with my husband I’m making my way through the Gaunts Ghosts series by Dan Abnett, I love the characters and their relationships while following their journey fighting against Chaos.
